Vijverloper, waterpest 8-8-2001
Hydrometra stagnorum
Vijverloper, adult spec.

Holding a branch of pondweed as an extra hold this Water-measurer stands for minutes in rest on the water surface. These surface bugs keep more to the plants of the border then Water striders. There are two species of Hydrometra in Europe, H. stagnorum which is on this picture and H. gracilentis which is more rusty brown. Besides the colour there are some more reliable determination marks.
