Cybister lateralimarginalis
This male specimen just made a rowing stroke with its oar-like hind legs. Notice the sucker discs on the front
legs. It keeps these legs retracted under the head while swimming.
This beetle swims at ease, with a slow rowing movement. When it moves close to the bottom it surprisingly makes
more use of the smaller middle legs, in stead of using the much more powerful hind legs.
