Agabus undulatus
(continuation)

Detail of another picture
These detail pictures of the 'wave' on the right wing case (elytron), make
clear that the bright coloured spots on the beetle are in fact colourless spots. The
dark 'varnish' is absent here, what we see is the translucent, light yellow chitin
of the elytra. When a beetle has just hatched from its pupal skin, it is fully colourless,
as can be seen by this picture of Cybister marginalis.
Only after some hours, or days, the beetle gets its dark colour. On the bright spots of this
species, that colour didn't come, to put it simple.
